It’s officially football season, and along with it comes the timeless tradition of tailgating. Tailgating is a fun thing to do, whether at the local stadium or at your own home. There is nothing like watching a thrilling game of football on a huge flat screen TV, with a steady supply of burgers in hand, and chilled beers to go with them. But when organizing a good tailgate, there are few pointers that should be kept in mind in order to make sure you have the perfect tailgating experience. Having a safe and secure system set up and having everything close by helps you enjoy your tailgate and the game to the fullest.
Here are some of the pointers in the safety checklist of hosting a tailgate at your home:
Follow food safety guidelines
One thing to ensure when organizing a good tailgate is proper food safety. Food poisoning is common news when organic food is not handled property. The bacteria contained in various meats and poultry, when not contained at the right temperature can reproduce at an unbelievable speed. When these foods are not cooked or handled thoroughly and come in contact with other food, contamination occurs in a matter of moments.
Proper food storage
When buying frozen foods from the store, it is imperative to come home directly and put them into the freezer without delay. Bacteria cannot live or reproduce at temperatures less than 41 degrees Fahrenheit. Also cooking the bratwursts and burgers at the right temperatures is important to render them bacteria free. Cold food should be kept on ice and warm food should be kept warm for as long as possible. No food should be kept out for more than 2 hours. Leftovers should be immediately discarded.
Keep a fire extinguisher handy
A multipurpose fire extinguisher like the ABC should be kept handy and fully charged. These extinguishers contain a dry powder which helps contain and stop fires and you can go back to enjoying your tailgate in no time. These fire extinguishers also leave a non-flammable substance behind post-use that stops the fire from re-igniting again.
Keep plenty of trash bags and bins
Having plenty of disposal units will reduce the chance of your beautiful backyard getting littered. Also by emptying the garbage bins from time to time will make sure you have lesser cleaning up to do once the party is over. If you are using charcoal grill for the barbecue, make sure you learn the right way of disposing the post-cookout coals.
