A pool is a great addition to any home—not only does it add monetary value to that home, it can be a year-round source of fun. There’s no better place to spend a Florida summer than in a crisp pool. But pools do come with a certain amount of risk. Here are a few pool safety tips to help minimize your risk:
1. Put up a barrier.
Until you have small children or animals around your pool, you might not think it is that important to put up a barrier. These barriers can prevent anyone from slipping and falling into your pool, not just youngsters and pets.
2. Install a non-slip pool deck.
Some materials for pool decks become slippery when wet, making it very dangerous to even walk around your pool. Make sure you install a pool deck that is made out of non-slip materials to prevent as many slips as possible.
3. Mark the depth of your pool.
Children and even adults can quickly get in water over their head if the depths are not clearly marked on the side of your pool.
4. Keep an eye on people in the pool.
Don’t just assume that everyone who will be getting into your pool knows how to swim. It’s especially important to monitor children in your pool, but keep an eye on anyone who gets into the water.
5. Keep your water clean.
There are plenty of bacterial and viral diseases that can be contracted from unclean pool water. Make an effort to keep your pool balanced and clean, to prevent algae, bacteria, viruses, and other organic matter from contaminating your pool and making it an unsafe place to swim.
Taking these precautions will make your pool and the surrounding area a much safer place to be!
