Shelli: Hi, I’m Shelli from Anderson & Associates and I’m here with Samantha Cartright from My Care Finders. And I’m interested, how did you start your family company?
Samantha Cartright: So my sister actually has the health administration background. She went to college for health care administration so she started working in a community as an administrator. So she definitely saw the need herself.
But then we had to place my mom. My mom needed to move up from Fort Myers and unfortunately, she is on Medicaid so we had trouble finding her a community. We realized how many options there were. And then my sister said, “Wouldn’t it be great if we could just do our own referral service so we can actually help people do what we are doing?”
Her and her husband have the knowledge and the expertise. He was in health care administration for over 20 years so between the both of them, they definitely have that background. So they wanted to create something whereas it’s local and it’s within amenities with the rest of the county even though we do work up to – down to Venice, up to Sun City. They wanted to create something where we can actually help people and get back and give that advice and help them answer questions.
Shelli: So I have another question. You had mentioned that the Medicaid is something that you all don’t get paid for. What is the ideal form of insurance that somebody would have for your service?
Samantha Cartright: Long-term care insurance is definitely something I would recommend everyone to have. It has definitely changed over the years. It’s not how it used to be because people unfortunately are living longer, which is a great thing. But they are living longer than what the company has expected. So they started the change with policies. But it’s never too young or I can’t say too old to get but people …
Shelli: It gets it more expensive as you age.
Samantha Cartright: Absolutely. So it’s definitely something I would start with as soon as possible because you never know. There are people in assisted living facilities in their 60s. So look into long-term care insurance?
Shelli: There are options now too for add-on life insurance where you can add on long-term care to that which sometimes is a more affordable option but it’s definitely something that you should ask about.
Samantha Cartright: Absolutely. Absolutely.
Shelli: Great. Well, thank you for telling us your why. I think people find that really interesting.
Samantha Cartright: Thank you.
