Hi. I’m Shelli from Anderson and Associates and one of the questions I get asked is “Why do you want my Social Security number?” The insurance companies do do a credit report as part of the rate. It’s called a soft hit. So it does not affect your credit score at any point in time.
But they do use that information. It gets plugged into their system and statistically people with higher credit scores have less accidents and less claims. So another tip on possibly saving money if you’re a husband and wife and one of you has a better credit score than the other, it’s worth telling your insurance agent. We can save you money that way.
